Guanajuato, Mexico is the capital city of Guanajuato State, 230 miles NW of Mexico City. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the only "medieval European city" in the Americas. Like a walled-in town, Guanajuato is situated in a bowl surrounded by hills that drop steeply to the plains beyond.
