Apple Computer releases ARO Designs' iPhone App
SPOKANE, Washington (December 17, 2009) -- Apple Computer™ has released “Bugfarm™ Mobile,” the first iPhone™ software to result from a joint venture between ARO Designs, Inc. of Spokane and Sterling International, Inc. of Spokane Valley.
ARO's director, Michael Sheets, describes the new program as "a fast-paced, casual game, ideal to play while waiting in lines or between 'phone calls. It's also somewhat addictive." A free demo and the full version are available now through iTunes™ or downloadable directly from Apple's "App Store."
ARO and Sterling join a small handful of companies in the Spokane area with a published iPhone title. Those include Sheets' former employer, "Cyan Worlds" who released a version of "Myst™" earlier this year. More applications are planned for release by ARO in early 2010.

ARO Designs Announces New Computer Game Divisions
SPOKANE, Washington (December 11, 2009) -- ARO Designs has formalized its status as a game developer by creating two new divisions: “ARO Designs Games” and “TapFlap™ Books.” Both were announced this week on their new website at http://www.arodesigns.com.
“ARO Designs Games” will focus on producing entertainment and educational games for “non-game” companies, who see their value for education, public relations and for generating revenue.
For example, the primary business of Spokane Valley’s Sterling, International, Inc. is pest control products, but the firm hired ARO Designs to create “Bugfarm™ PC” (released in October 2009). In a joint venture, Sterling and ARO Designs Games have completed “Bugfarm™ Mobile” for release later this month on Apple™ Computer’s “App Store.”
“TapFlap™ Books” are original, interactive children’s stories designed for mobile devices. The first, multi-lingual series is slated for release on iPhone™ and iPod™ Touch in the first quarter of 2010.
“Quality games can be powerful tools for generating new business,” says Michael Sheets, ARO Designs’ Director. “But until recently, they were too expensive for small- and medium-sized companies. All that has changed. We’ve even developed large projects for individuals.” ARO created the Spanish program, “BiLingo Kidz™” for a teacher who personally funded the work.
Sheets’ experience with games began with interactive, touch-screen kiosks in the late 1980s. Later he worked on the computer game, “Myst™ Masterpiece Edition,” and was a member of the development team for its best-selling sequel, “Riven™.”
